This class of carrier was commissioned during the same period of carrier-centric Domain naval doctrine as the ubiquitous Talon fighter. armored to withstand the fury of battle alongside the Onslaught, the Mora was nonetheless decommissioned en masse as doctrine shifted to favor heavier guns and capital ships flanked by line-cruisers.

Demilitarized hulls were sold and converted into mobile industrial platforms for use on the frontiers of the Domain. The rugged and eminently adaptable Mora was a common sight in long-range surveying, mining, construction, drone handling, and use as mobile drydocks. Some hulls were even half-buried on alien worlds and used as armored power-stations and workshops to form the core of new settlements.

After the Collapse, Mora hulls were re-militarized almost suspiciously rapidly by factions that did not possess dedicated fleet carriers. Today they are an anvil upon which many an unwary Pirate warlord is broken.

–In-game description

Overview

The Mora is a respectable and well-armoured carrier, with an excellent Damper Field defensive subsystem making it extremely difficult to destroy quickly in fights. With two turreted medium missile hardpoints, it is capable of equipping finisher missiles such as Harpoons or Reapers to launch at crippled vessels as a finisher, or pressure missiles such as Annihilators, Pilums or Sabots to keep up or break shields.

It is, however, very slow, and has limited flux capacity, which limits what can be fitted in its myriad of small slots without flux-locking itself in fights.

The Mora can field three fighter wings, which for its deployment cost gives it fairly reasonable flight deck efficiency, on par with the Heron. Attention must be given to how much OP is spent on fighters versus weapons, as it is easy to neglect one or the other, which usually leads to a much more inefficient and ineffective loadout.

It is worth noting that the Mora is classified a Combat carrier, much like the Legion, and hence will attempt to move into firing range of the enemy, assuming it is fitted with direct fire weapons. In comparison to the Heron, which has the same deployment cost, the Mora is much tougher and difficult to kill once under fire. The ships behave differently from one another in AI hands: the Heron will actively avoid combat and attempt to kite enemies at max range, whereas the Mora will gladly fill gaps in the battle line and attempt to directly engage enemies with primary weapons alongside it's wings where possible.

Acquisition

The Mora is consistently found in hegemony military markets and requires a minimum of Friendly (50) reputation with The Hegemony to purchase.

Strategy and tips

Damagetype energy.png The following section contains user-submitted suggestions, these may be inaccurate or outdated.

Fighting against the Mora

  • The Mora is a very slow carrier at only 45 speed, by avoiding the mothership itself and wearing down it's fighters (and thus replacement rate), the mothership is left significantly less dangerous.
  • The Mora has very poor flux statistics all around with a base flux capacity & dissipation below some destroyers, weapons that have high burst kinetic damage such as Sabots, Gauss or Tachyons can easily overload it's shield - leaving it unable to use it's Damper Field ship system or weaponry to defend itself.
  • Be mindful of the medium missiles that the Mora is equipped with, unlike most carriers, the Mora possesses significant primary weaponry and can easily combo it's weapon systems with it's fighters alongside it's high durability.

Loadout Tips

  • The Mora should be designed with both it's ship-based armaments and wings in mind, as it will naturally try to act as a line ship unlike dedicated/strike carriers such as the Condor, Drover or Heron. It's AI behavior is similar to that of the Gemini and ships equipped with Converted Hangars.
  • The Mora carries two medium missile mounts in turret emplacements, this is a significant source of non-flux consuming weaponry that will allow the Mora to win trades with other vessels. Due to it's AI behavior, torpedoes such as the Typhoon Reaper Launcher and PCL are uniquely favorable due to it's tendency to be on the frontline.
  • While unusual, the Mora can equip the Safety Overrides hullmod to give the vessel the necessary speed and flux to chase down opponents that would normally escape it. The player may also opt to fit more flux consuming weapons on such a loadout.
  • Due to the combination of missile weaponry, fighter bays, Damper Field and armor/hull the Mora stays remarkably effective even with several Dmods.
