A technologically advanced yet fragile destroyer from the late Domain era designed to provide additional firepower in fleet actions carried out by the stretched Domain Navy rather than serve on independent patrols. It has powerful shield emitters and energy weapons but is vulnerable to strike craft and flanking assault frigates.

–In-game description

SunderSunder (LG)

An advanced midline Destroyer used by the Persean League, the Sunder is one of the few destroyers capable of fielding a Large Energy weapon.

Overview

The Sunder is a midline destroyer capable of fielding a Large Energy weapon. It is also armed with 2 forward-facing Small Energy hardpoints, and 2 forward-facing Small Missile hardpoints. 3 Small Ballistic turrets also exist, helping to either increase the firepower or point defense of the Sunder.

Strategy and tips

Damagetype energy.png The following section contains user-submitted suggestions, these may be inaccurate or outdated.

A Sunder has two different roles it can fulfill: Attack or Support. Due to energy weapons having very well-defined ranges, non-beam weapons encourage an Attack role, while beam weapons a Support role. Vents should be maxed where possible due to the flux-intensive nature of Energy weapons.

Weapons

Sunders tend to work well with a High Intensity Laser; and when paired with Graviton Beams or Ion Beams the Sunder will work well in a long-range support role. Alternatively, a Tachyon Lance may instead be outfitted to trade sustained fire for burst damage. Whichever is chosen, the two front ballistics should be mounted with Light Needlers for kinetic damage.

For a more offensive-minded Sunder, an Autopulse Laser paired with either Ion Pulsers or Phase Beams will give it a very high DPS for short periods of time. Should an Attack Sunder be built, it is recommended to spec out the Small Ballistic turrets for point defenses.

Hullmods

Should the Sunder be equipped with a beam weapon, the Advanced Optics hullmod will assist in increasing the range at which it can fire. Meanwhile an Autopulse Laser-outfitted Sunder should instead equip Expanded Magazines to give it more sustained firepower.

Another alternative recommended Large Energy weapon for an Attack-role Sunder is the Plasma Cannon combined with Safety Overrides. While this combination will give the Sunder an even higher flux cost compared to the other recommended builds, equipping a Safety Overridden Sunder with only the Plasma Cannon will help in allowing the ship to continuously pepper enemy ships with plasma.
