The Pegasus was an aspirational design initiative by Altair Exotech building off the immense profit and prestige generated by the "Cruiser School" turn of the Domain Armada procurement arm. Orion Shipyards, the primary supplier of capital craft to the Armada, naturally considered this an imposition on a field it had dominated up the that point. Many of the old admirals agreed and uptake was slow; nevertheless, the Pegasus anchored several of the newer battlegroups and found favor among a generation of young officers.

The unparalleled heavy missile-focused loadout is a striking distinction from more traditional designs, allowing the Pegasus to compromise on scale of power systems and flux-handling while maintaining respectable armor, top speed, and maneuverability. Traditionalists criticize the Pegasus' "staying power" under fire while counter-critics respond that if a fleet finds itself under sustained heavy fire, it has already made a serious tactical error. Despite these debates, which continue to this day, the combat performance of the Pegasus-class has earned it begrudging respect even from detractors.

–In-Game Description

The Pegasus-class battleship is a midline design capable of carrying and quickly unloading an array of large missiles. These are backed up by many medium mounts for ballistic and energy weapons, and four small energy mounts, positioned for both offensive and defensive roles. It is fielded by the Persean League.

Overview

The Pegasus' Fast Missile Racks system is what allows it to quickly bring its missiles to bear against targets. This means the Pegasus can quickly destroy almost any target with a veritable wall of missile fire, but leaves it with relatively little combat endurance compared to other capital ships.

Strategy and tips

Damagetype energy.png The following section contains user-submitted suggestions, these may be inaccurate or outdated.

The primary focus of the Pegasus is its four large missile hardpoints. As such, good hullmod choices include Expanded Missile Racks and ECCM Package to make the most out of them.

While it is fun to watch, and will ruin the day of any dedicated carrier or other missile-heavy ships while your own missiles last, using nothing but Locust SRM Launchers is inefficient against heavily armored targets.

The ammo dependant nature and Fast Missile Racks on the Pegasus make it tricky to build for AI use. If not under player command, the ship will often fire off all of its missiles and system charges immediately against the first target in range, leaving it with only its medium weapons to continue fighting.
