Venture
Tough, dependable and not overly expensive, Venture-class cruisers are usually purchased by private corporations for escort duty or refitted by small non-aligned worlds for system defense. | ||
–In-game description |
The Venture-class ships are perhaps the most widely used civilian cruisers in the Sector. The blueprints for the Venture are widely available and can often be secured with little trouble.
When used by small corporations, the ship is usually the pride of the fleet and is used to underpin vital operations. Due to its ubiquity, the vessel also serves with quite a few pirate outfits, where it sometimes fills the role of command ship. |

Overview
The Venture is a cheap exploration cruiser with built-in Surveying Equipment, generous cargo capacity and above average range. It is widely available and has remarkably low supply use. In combat it's a low-tech ship through and through, with good armor and hull and poor flux dissipation/shield.
Care should be taken when using the Venture because its Civilian-grade Hull-enlarged sensor profile can attract a lot of unwanted attention both inside and outside of core worlds. Fitting Militarized Subsystems and/or Insulated Engine Assembly is recommended.
The stock Venture comes with built-in Mining Pod Drone Wing and surprising amount of frontal missile firepower, especially when combined with its Fast Missile Racks system.
Availability
The standard Venture can be found almost everywhere, and is one of the most common combat capable cruisers available on the Open Market. The Venture Mk.II and Venture (LP) can both be found in their respective faction aligned stations.

Tips and strategies
The following section contains user-submitted suggestions, these may be inaccurate or outdated.
Fighting against the Venture
- The Venture's largest source of firepower is from it's immense missile weight, this stays true on every variation of the Venture. Strong point defense, high mobility or high shield strength in that order of importance will keep your ship(s) safe.
- The Venture shares the same qualities of many low tech vessels, high armor and hull means that the Venture will weather a lot of damage, bring sufficient High Explosive type damage and anti-armor to destroy one efficiently. Additionally despite it's average shield, the Venture has a very poor flux grid and can only use all three of it's non missile weapons against opponents directly head on.
- The Venture is a very slow vessel at 40 speed, and is relatively easy to avoid.
- A Venture equipped with torpedoes such as Jackhammers and Typhoon Reaper Launchers instead of guided missiles is vulnerable to being assaulted on it's aft. Take note that the Venture has an omnidirectional shield.
Loadout tips
- Focus on the Venture's missiles first and foremost, a combination of Sabots with Harpoons is an old yet effective combination that plays well to Fast Missile Racks.
- Guided missiles can help with the rather widely spaced hardpoints that the Venture possesses. ECCM Package greatly improves the guidance and speed of most missiles.
- The venture gets the maximum benefit from Missile Autoloader for it's class size, which can benefit cumulatively with Expanded Missile Racks. Furthermore, taking advantage of 'linked' weapon groups with point defense weaponry can ensure that the Venture exhausts it's missile capacity in battle before/if it gets destroyed.
- The Venture's side ballistics are better used for point defense, due to it's large footprint, slow mobility and high flux efficiency of most point defense weapons.
- The sole energy mount on the Venture should be focused on support such as an Ion Beam. Alternatively, one may mount a Heavy Burst Laser and use the medium ballistics for offensive solutions.
- The standard Venture comes with a built in drone wing of Mining Pods that are mostly useful as additional ablative armor by catching stray shots. Defensive Targeting Array can help boost the drones mining lasers to serviceable lengths in addition to being a very low-cost Ordnance Point investment.
Fleet advice
- The Venture is unique in that it's a relatively well armed and self sufficient civilian type vessel. This means that certain skills that only affect combat ships such as Tactical Drills and Crew Training do not affect it without installing Militarized Subsystems. This can be useful if the player seeks to get the full benefit from these skills on other dedicated combat ships without exceeding the DP limitations. Note that Support Doctrine does not consider if a ship is classed as a combat or civilian type.
- Due to it's high innate durability and focus on non-flux consuming missile weaponry, the Venture and Venture Mk.II are very strong choices for Derelict Operations fleet set ups. It is possible to be able to field close to the fleet ship limit of Ventures for the purposes of complete missile saturation.
- The Venture low deployment cost, low fuel usage, high cargo space and built in Surveying Equipment makes it a very competitive choice for exploration focused fleets. It may be worthwhile to mount Insulated Engine Assembly to negate it's high sensor profile as a civilian ship.
