Derelict Mothership
| This is one of the legendary survey motherships, the quiet automated workhorse of the Domain exploration and colonization effort. This is in essence a von Neumann probe, as the survey motherships contain autoforge capacity to manufacture a suite of smaller survey ships and the supplies required to perform its ongoing mission. The Derelict Mothership is the largest derelict ship, of which only 2 can be found in the Sector each playthrough. They're found orbiting or within celestial objects like planets, stars, jump points, asteroid belts / fields, or just in empty space.
Due to the fact that they can be located anywhere in any system, intel from smaller Explorarium derelicts are very useful for finding these objects. Like with other Explorarium derelicts, they are only found in a few constellations and its incorporated systems, though intel is still useful to avoid thoroughly exploring each system.
Combat
Derelict Mothership uses the multi-part combat stations mechanic. Its large central core is invulnerable to conventional fire but its numerous small modules are destructible and the mothership will be defeated when all modules are destroyed.
While not really difficult to take down, it does broadly present a gentle learning curve to the multi-part station mechanics. The multiple Mining Blasters with massively extended range demand some attention as a credible threat to an unwary, overconfident player that's not using shields. It should be very easy to take down with shielded ships due to the complete absence of anti-shield weaponry, since its PD Lasers / Mining Lasers do not deal hard flux damage.
Rather, its escort fleet of Explorarium drones poise a far greater threat (relatively), often featuring multiple Ramparts along with many smaller drones.
Drops
After the battle the salvage is guaranteed to have a Catalytic Core, Synchrotron Core, or Pristine Nanoforge.
The most common drops are the usual Metals, Supplies, Fuel & Heavy Machinery.
Occasionally, Organics, Volatiles & Transplutonics can also be obtained.
It can also rarely drop Gamma AI Cores and/or Beta Core.
Even rarely drops are Alpha Core and/or Special Colony Items.
It is highly recommended to salvage the debris field left behind as it shares a similar drop pool, allowing the player to potentially obtain the aforementioned rare loot.
