An excellent harasser and support frigate, the Vigilance-class has oversized (for its class) hybrid and missile mounts. While it shines in a fleet setting, it can be easily overwhelmed by large numbers of smaller threats.

–In-game description

Overview

The Vigilance brings impressive capabilities to the battle, if its weaknesses can be mollified. Its unique combination of oversized weapon mounts give this class of frigate access to long range support weapons not normally found on ships of this size. However, with weak armor, a weak hull and unexceptional mobility, this strength can only be utilized effectively when protected by a large fleet.

Tips and strategies

A superb support frigate that fulfills the fire support role very well with it's medium ballistic and missile mounts. Its Fast Missile Racks can allow the Vigilance to unleash a hail of missiles at the opportune times.

However, what the Vigilance lacks is with it's slow overall mobility and poor armor profile. It should not be tasked alone as it is very easy to outgun and easily dispatched with. Keeping it close to allied ships is the key to it's survival.

Fire Support

Outfitted with the reliable Pilum LRM Launcher, when paired with the Fast Missile Racks is the quintessential combination for a fire support Vigilance. It's ballistic mount can then be dedicated to a Dual Flak Cannon in order to further protect itself from hostile fighters or missile threats. This also allows the Vigilance to stay safe further away from an on-going engagement and allowing it to defend itself in times of emergencies.

Close Support

A far more risky but also deadly combination is a Typhoon Reaper Launcher paired with a Heavy Needler or Hypervelocity Driver. This deadly combination allows the Vigilance to fight along side friendly vessels, peppering them with anti-shield fire. When the target's shield is down or the vessel is overloading, unleash a hail of torpedoes in quick succession for the final blow! However the Vigilance is unlikely to be able to withstand heavy retaliation and therefore must rely on friendly vessels to cover it.

The Vigilance is a fantastic fire support vessel for it's cost. Whether it is supporting a fleet from a far or close by, it will always be ever vigilant for the right opportunity to strike.
