Article structure

Most articles open with a few sentences describing the item of the article, often with a related quote at the top of the page and an appropriate infobox. The article is then further detailed in sections. The end of the article often features an appropriate navbox that links to similar articles.

Article editing guidelines

  • The wiki's main aim is to provide factual, objective information. Do not editorialize and/or include highly subjective opinions such as "Onslaught is busted" or "Paragon is the best ship in the game". Stick to verifiable facts, and reasoned subjective evaluations that can be supported by the presented facts.
  • Subjective opinions should be relegated to "Strategy" and "Tips and tricks" sections of the article.
  • Guides are an exception to this rule.
  • Use in-game terms whenever possible for naming the articles.

Places to contribute

All articles in Category:Potentially outdated need to be checked for any changes and the version template updated to the latest version.

Useful templates

We use templates for formatting the pages. To insert a template, use {{<name of template|<first parameter>|<second parameter, and so on>}}

Template:C: used to format credits like so: {{c|4120}} - 4,120c.

Template:SP: used to format story point use: {{SP|1}}, {{SP|1|100}} - SP, SP 100% XP.

Template:Version: used to track when an article was last updated. When updating an article to a new release, update the number (or insert the article into the page) like so: {{Template:Version|0.97a}}. Some versions of this template use an outdated format referring to separate templates, such as Template:Version 0.96 and Template:Version 0.97. These should be phased out. The template should be put at the very top of the page.

Template:Patch Changes and Template:Patch: should be used to format change history on a specific page, like so:

{{Patch Changes|
*{{Patch|0.95.1a|One-line change}}
*{{Patch|0.95a|
** Change that has multiple lines
** Another line}}
*{{Patch|0.9a|
** Change that has a subsection:
*** Like so}}
}}

Change history for ship variants should be put on the main page, and transcluded to variant pages using {{#lsth:<ship name>|Change History}}

Template:TextColor: Quickly color a text string, including using ingame colors.

Template:Quote: Inserts a quote.

Template:Subjective: Should be used at the start of the sections for strategies or tips.

Template:Cite historian and Template:Cite mission: for making references to ingame content.

Infoboxes and navboxes

Ships: Template:ShipInfobox and Template:ShipNavbox.

Weapons: Template:WeaponInfobox and Template:WeaponNavbox.

Hullmods: Template:HullmodInfobox and Template:HullmodNavbox.

Hatnotes

Template:About: "This article is about X, for Y, see Z".

Spoiler policy

The wiki contains spoilers by its nature, and the policy is to leave them unmarked. However, avoid bringing them up on non-spoiler pages unnecessarily. Hidden ships and weapons are kept in a separate section in the navbox that's collapsed by default using one of:

  • a Template:Navbox with | state = collapsed
  • a div with class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed"
  • a table with the same class

Cargo

We have Cargo extension enabled for collecting data from infoboxes on the pages and compiling it into tables automatically. It's still in the works, but you can see an example table at Special:CargoTables/Ships. More info can be found at:

What to not do

  • Do not mass-edit articles with infoboxes to change their formatting. Infobox parameters should be clear of formatting. Instead, edit the infobox.
