The Cerberus is prized for providing a cost-effective balance between cargo capacity and enough combat power for its size to discourage casual piracy with civilian grade freighters. The Cerberus is now widely considered to be a wise platform of operation for independent traders in the Sector.

In times past, before the fall of the gate system when Domain authority reigned, combat enabled freighters like the Cerberus found only niche use on the edges of the rare warzone or in especially uncivilized hinterlands of the galaxy where Domain Armada patrols were stretched thinly. The crew combat training, weapon maintenance, and mass/thrust ration loss caused by heavier armor were viewed as causing unnecessary cost overhead. But this is a new age filled with both danger and profitable opportunities: The abilities of the Cerberus have given the hull a new life in the trade lanes.

–In-Game Description

A Combat Freighter Frigate, the Cerberus is commonly used by Independent fleets. Its Burn Drive allows it to more quickly flee battle, or to approach enemy ships much quicker.

Overview

The Cerberus is a large unshielded frigate with some freighter functionality. It is essentially a larger, slower, more powerful Hound.

It is worth noting that a Luddic Path Cerberus, once restored, is possibly one of the best frigate sized freighters in the game, especially for smuggling. It has exceptional cargo capacity for a frigate, no Civilian-grade Hull, Shielded Cargo Holds to help dodge contraband scans and Safety Overrides for running away. Its Accelerated Ammo Feeder allows it to fill the role of an early light assault ship.
