The Enforcer-class ships commonly serve in system or convoy defense roles. The design features good armor and multiple ballistic hardpoints, while shield performance is somewhat underwhelming.

The blueprints of the ship call for many components similar to those found in the Onslaught-class battleships, suggesting that the designs were created during a similar period of military expansion in the Domain. The Enforcer-class features similar no-nonsense weapon system design choices, tough bulkheads, and is well regarded by its crews.

Tough to beat in a destroyer to destroyer fight, the Enforcer rarely takes part in larger battles due to the common view that its low speed makes it a liability. Nonetheless, Hegemony order of battle doctrines mandate an attached Enforcer squadron as a screen for Onslaught-class battleships. The logistical ease with which shared components can be used by both ship types is exactly the type of detail that excites Hegemony logistics bureaucrats.

EnforcerEnforcer (P)Enforcer (XIV)

A Destroyer armed with a large arsenal of Medium Ballistic turrets and Small Missile mounts, the Enforcer-class represents all the aspects of low tech military ships, both the good and the bad.

Overview

A common Low Tech ship that truly exemplifies the Low Tech doctrine: Strong armour, a large number of weapon mounts, high peak performance time, terrible speed, an average shield, and very poor flux systems. It sports 5 medium ballistic turrets with the sidemost turrets having good coverage to the front and back of the ship, while the central 3 converge in a 140° to the front of the ship. It also sports 4 forward-pointing small missile hardpoints.

Due to the Enforcer's terrible speed, it struggles to prevent itself from being harassed at range and relies heavily on its Burn Drive to close the gap with other destroyers. With that in mind, the Enforcer's ballistic focused weaponry, versatile omni shield, high durability, and turret based weaponry makes it work best in situations where opponents must engage it from head-on.

Acquisition

The ubiquitous Enforcer is found throughout the sector, and the Enforcer(P) can be quickly obtained early from black markets at any colony. The XIVth Battlegroup variation is exclusively available from Hegemony Military markets and very rarely in black markets.

Strategy and tips

Fighting against the Enforcer

  • While the Enforcer is a very durable ship, the poor flux stats, average shield and poor mobility allows the destroyer to easily be overloaded via weapons like Sabots.
  • The Enforcer is highly vulnerable when its Burn Drive is active, propelling the ship forward while disabling its shields. This can also potentially cause the ship to overextend into enemy lines, opening it up to heavier damage.
  • Enforcers equipped with Flak Cannons become much deadlier against fighters, but suffer from decreased damage potential against other ships.
  • Like most low tech ships, EMP weaponry is extremely effective against the armored Enforcer.

Loadout Tips

  • Launching missiles during/before a Burn Drive lets them stack atop each other allowing them to hit at roughly the same time. This is particularly useful for torpedoes such as the Annihilator. In the case of guided missiles like the Atropos, they may be covered by the Enforcer itself thus shielding them from interception.
  • It is highly advised to maximize Flux Vents when refitting the Enforcer so that it can continue to fire its weaponry for much longer. It's preferable to also use high flux efficiency weaponry like Arbalests and missiles.
  • Due to the Enforcer's 4 small missile mounts, it may be beneficial to use 'linked' weapon groups to force usage in an engagement. This is particularly effective with missile mounts that have high ammo capacities such as Swarmers or high assured value like Sabots.
  • The Enforcer can afford to vent while in direct combat due to it's high armor. This allows it to keep up the pressure with opponents that are unable to disengage from it. Be mindful to not do this after your armor has been depleted.
  • The skill Ordinance Expertise (also provided by Support Doctrine) highly benefits the Enforcer as its weapons setup results in high Ordinance Point usage on weapon mountings.
  • Due to the Enforcer's low Deployment Cost/Maintenance Cost of 9 Supply and high Ordnance Point to Deployment Cost Ratio, the Converted Hangar hullmod can be used to help augment the Enforcer's performance against ships that would otherwise easily disengage from it. The use of Talons and Thunders can keep an enemy preoccupied enough for the Enforcer to force a prolonged engagement where it can exploit its extremely high durability and firepower.
  • The Enforcer leftmost and rightmost turrets are excellent positions for Flak Cannons due to their wide arc.

Trivia

  • The Enforcer (XIV) has the second highest ratio of Ordnance Point to Deployment Cost for any destroyer in the game (12:1) behind the Buffalo Mk.II.
  • The Enforcer class are the slowest destroyers in the game. Indeed many cruisers have higher speed than it.
  • The Enforcer (XIV) has the highest armour for any destroyer in the game.
