General Information | |||||||
|
An example of one of the countless thousands of robot probe ships sent out into the galaxy by the Domain to find new resources to exploit, planets to colonize, and explore the unknown. Some variants are produced by automated motherships. This specimen appears to be inactive; pitted by small impacts, its hull displays iridescence from fearsome radiation scarring. This probe's manufacture could well date to a thousand cycles ago. | ||

The Domain Exploration Derelict (or simply Derelicts) are a "faction" representing the leftover exploration and colony ships sent by the Domain to explore the Sector. Some of these probes and ships are still around, waiting for someone to recover them. They are the remnants of the Explorarium, the Domain organization that first discovered and charted the Persean Sector.

Derelict Probes (small), Survey Ships (medium), and Motherships (large) are interactables that can be found in the unsettled, unexplored system space of the Sector. Attempting to salvage a derelict craft may provoke a response by its defense drones, which must be defeated to complete the salvage operation. Motherships can also join in the fighting; they are not "ships" in the normal sense, but rather giant constructs whose surface-mounted weaponry must be blown off to pieces, so something akin to the Derelicts' station.
These defense drones are of ancient design; their combat behaviour is reckless, they possess no shield & rely on their armor, their weaponry is generally short-ranged, and early on they will also often have several D-mods. Thus, they would make an easy opponent for players early in a playthrough.
However, as the player gradually destroy more derelicts, the various probes, survey ships and motherships will start to produce stronger variants of these drone ships & in higher quantity, making them more challenging to fight.
Salvaging a derelict craft will provide rewards ranging from common commodities (supplies, fuel, metals, heavy machinery) to rarer items and commodities, AI Cores, hullmods, or info providing the locations of more derelicts; these locations are stored in the Fleet Log on the Intel screen after their discovery.
As of version 0.95a, it's possible to receive a bounty for a rogue derelict fleet from a Military Contact. While the bounty itself is very rewarding and the derelict ships themselves are in poor condition with multiple D-mods, caution must be taken as the derelict fleet can contain Guardian-class battleships and all of their vessels will contain integrated Gamma Cores.
