Tri-Tachyon
Tri-Tachyon Corporation | |||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
General Information | |||||||||||||||
|
The most powerful megacorporation in the Sector after the fall of the Domain gate system, Tri-Tachyon specialized in cutting-edge AI development (including several notable cases of violating the Domain ban on autonomous alpha+ level AI) and exotic high-power devices (starship engines and warp drives, power generators, energy converters, forcefields). Since the collapse, Tri-Tachyon has vastly diversified its operations and insinuated itself throughout the Sector. Even hostile factions, paranoid of hardwired backdoors, find themselves forced to employ standard Tri-Tachyon devices, beginning with the ubiquitous Tri-Tachyon PDA.
From a certain perspective, the Tri-Tachyon corporate charter's peculiar algorithmic self-modifying features might be considered to be an abstract form of AI which makes use for human corporate officers as integral components, though this is a philosophical argument which was never satisfactorily resolved in a way that led to any additional convictions of violating the Domain's AI ban. |

–In-Game Faction Description |
"To give an example, I profiled the Tri-Tachyon Corporation as arrogant scientist/corporate types. They see themselves as keepers of knowledge, heirs to the technological marvels created by the Domain. Obsessed with efficiency and the acquisition of technology that remains in the Sector, they condemn those that shun them. They are prone to over-thinking problems as a group, and care little for the plight of those outside their inner circle. At their best, they are competent, effective and cooperative with one another. At their worst, they are detached, elitist and cruel. Their belief is that the non-functioning star gates are merely dormant, and they they are actively looking for the key that will awaken them – thus restoring to them the lost technological wealth of the Domain. Secret tech-mining operations run by the Corporation can be found in the farthest reaches of the Sector." | ||
–Lore Spotlight: Factions and Worlds[1] |
The Tri-Tachyon Corporation is one of the major factions in the Sector.
Tri-Tachyon's largest presence is in the Hybrasil Star System, with two large colonies including the industrial world of Culann. They also hold outposts in the Magec, Mayasura and Valhalla star systems.
Lore
Fact: Giant fleets of AI warships don’t just show up out of no-where and they don’t just happen to be concentrated in the kinds of numbers we saw in the First AI War in one backwater sector on the Domain’s frontier. Trust me, anyone who examines the facts can see that Tri-Tachyon was prepared to make a move. Some would say they even instigated the Collapse using some kind of super-AI. Is it a coincidence that the Collapse happened just as Domain Battlegroup VI was rotated out of the Sector with Battlegroup XIV not yet arrived? I don’t think so, buddy. The AI mastermind controlling Tri-Tachyon had this all planned out, including the so-called Luddic Church psy-ops project to doubly weaken Domain authority. Facts don’t lie. | ||
–Tri-Truth: The AI Plot Behind The Collapse (TriMedia Store) |
Tri-Tachyon is one of the few corporations that managed to survive the Collapse, though compared to the others, they evidently did a lot better.
In c+84, they deployed AI Fleets that were developed in secret in systems beyond the Core Worlds, which then led to the first AI War in c+89 with the Hegemony. Tri-Tachyon's defeat had them accepting technological inspections with both sides suffering heavy losses.
At some point after this, Tri-Tachyon made a "friendly" visit (with a warfleet) to Port Tse Franchise Station and took over its operations.
In c+189, CEO Artemisia Sun took advantage of Hegemony's losses after the Askonia crisis to challenge the AI Tech inspections, starting the Second AI War.
Early c+189 – Outbreak of Second AI War
With Hegemony weakened by fallout from the Askonia Crisis – loss of fleet, loss of standing, loss of stability in officer corps, CEO Artemisia Sun uses tech inspection negotiations to instigate casus belli. |
Most of the war swings towards Tri-Tachyon within the early days, having installed backdoors on the Hegemony hyperspace communication relays and sending raids against Hegemony logistical fleets; the Hegemony responds with the use of packet ships and anti-raider task forces. Neither side is able to gain a decisive advantage.
By c+193, waning faith in CEO Sun leads to her removal by the "New Guard" executives, and Tri-Tachyon fleets gathered for a final strike at the Hegemony capital at Chicomoztoc
late c+193 Artemisia Sun removed as CEO of Tri-Tachyon Corporation
Shake-up of Tri-Tachyon leadership leads to major change in strategy. |
c+194.01 Tri-Tachyon attempts to invade Chicomoztoc
And fails. |
Though the Tri-Tachyon invasion fleet is ultimately defeated, a last stand by the Paragon-class TTS Invincible allows for the remainder of the fleet to escape with a planet-killer. A conditional surrender is negotiated afterwards at the Treaty of Crom Cruach in c+194, ending the Second AI War in the Hegemony's favor.[2][3]
However, whether or not this was truly a loss for Tri-Tachyon, or at least for CEO Sun, is debatable.
"In my circles- that's historians, mind you, not just old folks hanging around the bar," [He/She] chuckles at [Himself/Herself]. "We've made a rule not to argue about Artemisia Sun unless legitimate new information appears. And it never does!" [He/She] pauses for a moment, tapping [His/Her] book. "But you're not a historian, so the rule doesn't apply. Wonderful, you get to hear me out!"
"So: Why was she voted off the board just in time for the crucial military disaster of the Second AI War, then able to sweep back into her office with the credibility of all who opposed her absolutely annihilated? Was it merely a ruthless recovery, or was this a calculated sacrifice of Tri-Tachyon assets in order to consolidate her personal power from the start?" [He/She] smiles. "Maybe we can hash this theory all the way through one of these days." |

Fleet Doctrine
Ships
Tri-Tachyon is the premiere user of High Tech ships. They primarily utilize both warships and phase ships, with the Astral-class Carrier being the sole exception to this doctrine.
Their doctrine has their fleets are small and their officers relatively lacking, but their ships are treated to be top-of-the-line, also compensating for their Corrupted Nanoforge.
Uniquely, the sole midline warship they have is a high-tech retrofit of the Brawler; interestingly enough, the Wolf is not included amongst their list of Frigates, potentially having all been confiscated by the Hegemony after the Second AI War, or left to rot under Pirate colors, or simply removed from the doctrinal line-up.

Weapons
Due to their near exclusive use of High Tech ships, only a few ships are capable of fielding ballistic weapons. Even then, most are only able to be sold for others. However, they have a wide selection of energy weapons at their disposal. They also have a wider range of tracking missiles.

Colony Crisis
- Main article: Colony_Crises#Tri-Tachyon
When the player colonies start producing sufficient units of some commodities, Tri-Tachyon will start considering the player to be a competitor and will start hiring mercenaries to conduct commerce raiding, cumulating in a massive mercenary raid on one of the player's systems (which can either be fought or paid off). The player can then "convince" Tri-Tachyon that it isn't profitable to continue hostile activities, after which a mutually beneficial agreement can be made.

Vast investment capital and technical expertise are made availabe through your Tri-Tachyon connections. |
Friendly | A smiling holo of you appears in the Tri-Tachyon quarterly corporate report as an example of a key partner in various enterprises. You are given special perks and priority access to facilities owned or operated by Tri-Tachyon and its subsidiaries. |
Welcoming | The Tri-Tachyon Customer and Client Service Smart Database assigns you priority docking and a complimetary fruit and flower arrangement at every port controlled by Tri-Tachyon or one of its subsidiaries. Even if this is automated by a technically non-sentient sub-AI system, it is a sign that the Tri-Tachyon corporation values your ongoing business relationship. |
Favourable | Due to your status as a valued partner, the standard oxygen and agrav convenience fee has been waived for your visits to Tri-Tachyon or subsidiary owned facilities. |
Neutral | The Tri-Tachyon Customer and Client Service Smart Database, a Domain certified equivalent sub-gamma AI system dedicated to tracking potential competition, has not tagged your profile for special treatment or caution. |
Suspicious | Your profile with the Tri-Tachyon Customer and Client Service Smart Database has been algorithmically tagged as "potential risk" resulting in additional small "security fees" and delays when docking at facilities owned or operated by Tri-Tachyon or its subsidiaries. |
Inhospitable | A Tri-Tachyon sub-AI (alleged) tracks your movements through the Sector, and when docked at a wholly owned or subsidary facility, you are followed by an indiscreet security drone. Employees of the corporation treat you with suspicion, performing additional checks to avoid risk to their quarterly bonus. |
Hostile | Employees of Tri-Tachyon have been given the opportunity to earn a substantial increase to their quarterly performance bonus if they manage to kill you or, failing that, destroy your ability to cause further harm to the interests of the Company. A truly astronical bribe might get you back in their good books. |
Vengeful | Tri-Tachyon has assigned an AI core to theorycrafting your destruction and set aside a mercenary fund to see it done. Your name has its own byline, in red, in quarterly corporate reports and a rather uglier version of your features in procedurally-generated children's adutainment holos. |
A special department has taken an interest in how you have found so many AI cores. | ||
