Overview

Automated Ship is a built-in hullmod that only appears on droneships, such as those from the Domain Exploration Derelict.

These ships can only be obtained and used if the player has the Automated Ships skill, and they can only use uncrewed fighters (i.e., fighters with 0 crew per fighter).

Notes

  • Automated ships cannot be sold on the open market where AI Cores are illegal, though can be sold on the black market.
  • Ships with this hullmod are always forced into a Fearless personality, even if they are unofficered (see the Officer article for more details).[1]
    • This excludes ships tagged for a certain faction, which can have different personalities and otherwise default to Steady personality.
  • Certain ships found as part of the Scythe of Orion and Abyssal Space Oddity quests have a special variant of the hullmod, which allows the ships to be usable by the player without the Automated Ships skill and makes them not count against the skill's point threshold:
However, this ship was automated in a fashion that does not require special expertise to maintain. Some of the techniques used are poorly understood, likely dating to an earlier period.
  • The -100% CR penalty from this hullmod only applies if the ship is in the player's fleet.[2] Consequently, any NPC fleet can freely use automated ships without needing the Automated Ships skill.
