A Planetary Shield is a structure. It cannot be built immediately, as its blueprint must be found by completing the Red Planet quest.

It will refund 562,500¢ when shut down.

Effects
Planetary Shield applies a x3 multiplier to a colony's ground defense strength.

AI Cores
Planetary Shield receives the following perks from the assignment of an AI Core;
- Gamma: reduces demand by 1 unit, increases Pather interest & Hegemony interest by 1.
- Beta: reduces demand by 1 unit, reduces upkeep by 25%, increases Pather interest & Hegemony interest by 2.
- Alpha: reduces demand by 1 unit, reduces upkeep by 25%, and multiplies Ground Defenses by 1.5x, increases Pather interest & Hegemony interest by 4.
Additional Buffs
A Story point Improvement multiplies Ground Defenses by x1.25.
Trivia
- The Planetary Shield is currently the only colony structure in the game that must be learned through a blueprint before becoming available to build.
- Constructing a Planetary Shield on a colony will create a red shell around that planet, identical to that in the Red Planet quest. The effect is visible in the Command screen, the background of the colony's menu, and actual space. The effect stops appearing if the Planetary Shield is shut down.
