"An institution, a polity, a warship, a fleet, the Hegemony! The Luddic Church! The Tri-Tachyon Mega-credits-sucking Corporation! These are machines made of people, and these people don't understand their own machines. Or other people, come to think of it. The oneness of these holy constructs is mass delusion!"

–Gargoyle[1]

"Gargoyle" is a an independent hacker known to do jobs for Tri-Tachyon and later the Galatia Academy.

Biography

Gargoyle lived on Port Tse Franchise Station in the Mayasura Star System. Rayan Arroyo provided funding and directions for the player character to recruit Gargoyle for assistance in hacking the Hegemony Ministry of Data Standards to recover the Kallichore Archive. Gargoyle instructed the player to collect and install a device (made by Elissa Zal[2]) on the Hegemony comms relay in the Aztlan Star System.[1]

After the hack was successful, the Hegemony sent fleets to arrest Gargoyle on Port Tse. Gargoyle persuaded or blackmailed the player into helping them escape to the Galatia Academy, where they were put to work by Anahita Baird on decrypting the Kallichore Archive, and later on various tasks including helping briefing the player on Project Ziggurat[3].

When Scylla Coureuse needed Zal rescued in order to complete the Janus Device, she requested a meeting with Gargoyle and the player. Pleased to "assist in another Zal scheme", Gargoyle provided information and a digital token to secure a meeting with Warlord Jorien Kanta.[2].

Personality

"Why do I even bother. Stick to driving your rocketship, Captain [first name]. Pew pow blam! Take that, space pirates! Simple. Direct. Unsophisticated. Artless."

–Gargoyle to the player[1]

Gargoyle is often openly dismissive of people lacking their own cyber-skills, and most of the Sector in general, including the player character. They are nevertheless willing to cooperate with the player and Scylla Coureuse, and to follow "Queen B's" orders. Gargoyle shows genuine respect for Elissa Zal.[2]

Notes

Gargoyle is the only character in the game to officially have a non-binary gender (set to Gender.ANY in the game code[4]) and is never referred to by any pronouns in game dialog.
