Transverse Jump

Jump into a system through a nascent gravity well, or directly into hyperspace.

Once activated the fleet will remain stationary for 4 seconds before making the jump.

Enabled by the Navigation skill, learned from the Galatia Academy mission "Extract 'Researcher'", as well as granted to the player via a nameless senior technician if the player enters an Abyssal hyperspace gravity well without already knowing Transverse Jump, trapping themselves.

Notes

Three established gravity wells and a number of nascent gravity wells nearby
  • Transverse Jump enables both jumping into systems from hyperspace and also jumping out of systems into hyperspace. Jumping out of systems can be performed at any location in system while jumping into a system can only be done near nascent gravity wells. These are represented as small purple clouds somewhat near existing established system jump points. These clouds generally correspond with the locations of planets in the system – check the system map to make sure you use the right one!
  • Costs the same fuel as a regular jump point but also 10% of fleet deployment costs when jumping into hyperspace. This can be situationally better when considering supply usage to travel further to a regular jump point. It is also effective for escaping large enemy fleets, if the player can get far away enough first.
  • Jumping through a nascent gravity well into a system has no costs, and can save significant travel time in visiting planets. It may also be used to avoid patrols when smuggling by transverse jumping directly to and from the target planet.
  • In older versions of the game it was possible to break the tutorial by transverse jumping out of the Galatia system. This was fixed in 0.95.
  • As of 0.97, it is possible to earn this skill even earlier via taking a one-way gravity well in Abyssal hyperspace.
