This page is for how the player can go about the fine art of piracy.

For information on how to deal with pirate threats to colonies see the colony threats page. For information on the faction check here

Piracy How To

  • Set up a Comm Sniffer so you are notified of high value merchant flight paths
  • Pick an ambush spot & Go Dark
  • Interdiction Pulse to stop their Sustained Burn & disable their Emergency Burn (does not disable yours)
  • Emergency Burn if needed to catch them
  • Deploy fast ships to catch them as they flee
  • Profit!

It is helpful to have a passable knowledge of how Sensors work, as well as the abilities Emergency Burn, Sustained Burn, Interdiction Pulse & Go Dark as well as how to use Comm Sniffers.

Tips & Tricks

  • Turn your Transponder off to make it easier to hide and less reputation hit from your actions.
  • You can deploy frigates to the left and right when pursuing by clicking them multiple times in the deployment screen, to change them from Deploy to Left or Right.
  • Many common pirate ships are good for piracy, oddly enough, such as Hound, Cerberus or Mule
  • Using those ships with their Shielded Cargo Holds also means you can amuse yourself while waiting for a juicy target with smuggling
  • Taking out a notedly valuable shipment will create a shortage at its planned destination. You can potentially take the looted goods there yourself to sell on the open market for excellent profit and ending the shortage.
  • If you sell booty on the black market at the destination instead then you get exceptional profit with no tariffs and the shortage will continue.
