Energy motes deal heavy EMP damage to ships and obliterate fighters and missiles. Using the system creates a temporary attractor point for the motes. The motes automatically target nearby missiles and fighters unless an attractor point is set on an enemy ship.

–In-Game Description

This ship system is known to be used on the following ships:

Notes

A Ziggurat calling its motes to itself.

The Ziggurat spawns motes over time (about 5 per second), up to a maximum of 30 live motes. Normally these will flock around the parent ship and attack nearby fighters and missiles. When the ship system is used, the ship nearest the mouse cursor is targeted for the motes to attack. A point not near any ships can also be targeted. Motes can be targeted and destroyed by point defense weapons and, apart from following their parent ship, behave in a manner similar to swarm type missiles.

Motes deal 1,500 EMP damage (equal to a Salamander), plus 200 energy damage if the target is a fighter or missile. A shield or hull hit on a ship (but not a fighter) will create an EMP arc with another 1,500 EMP damage. This arc will penetrate the shield; Hardened Shields offers a limited chance to resist.

The TTS Xenorphica, the original Ziggurat prior to being recovered by the player, is equipped with an unobtainable Hullmod known as the "High Volition Attractor", which enhances its system to far stronger levels. The enhanced motes (described as High-Frequency Motes) are purple instead of blue, spawn to a maximum of 50, and the impact and EMP arc both deal 300 energy damage in addition to the EMP damage. The anti-fighter/missile damage is 1,000. It is mentioned as the second part of the Mote Attractor, which is damaged beyond repair when the Xenorphica is defeated.
