"House Rao - surely you know the family - is holding the grand ball of this season on Eventide. I shall place your name upon the guest list by invitation of the humble House Sang. Now does that not sound absolutely first-rate? You'll be the talk of the season, I'm sure of it."

–Caspian Sang

"Princess of Persea" (referred to in game code as "Sword of Eventide") is a semi-hidden mission added in Starsector 0.95.1.

The mission features a unique fencing minigame based on Prince of Persia, after which it is named.

Acquisition

The bar event to start the quest has a 20% chance of appearing at any Hegemony bar, when the player has a Hegemony commission and has met Baikal Daud during "At The Gates". The event is automatically triggered on bar entry, if the roll and other conditions are met.[1]

The player encounters a smarmy-looking Hegemony officer named Caspian Sang. After briefly enduring his false bonhomie, the player is invited to the grand seasonal ball at the spring estate of House Rao of Eventide, in the Samarra Star System.

Upon arriving on Eventide, if the player chooses not to delete the invitation, use the provided option in the dialog menu to travel to the Rao estate. The dialog options before the dance do not strictly matter, but proper conduct will avoid reputation losses with the Hegemony.

After a dance with the host, Nerine Rao, the player is confronted by a brutish officer named Magnus Cardona. Accept the demand of a duel to continue (or simply walk away).

The player thrusts at the foe

The duel minigame's controls are:

  • Left/right arrow keys: Move left/right (one step per keypress)
  • Spacebar: Attack
  • Up arrow: Parry

Before picking up the provided sword, there is a SP 100% XP 'blade skill' option which grants the player 5 points of health instead of 3, and the ability to riposte by attacking immediately after a parry. Pick up the sword, try the tutorial if so desired, then begin the duel.

The differences in outcome between winning and losing are primarily a matter of dialog, but winning does grant 3 Hegemony reputation. The easiest way to win is to carefully parry each attack, then quickly counter (naturally this only works if the opponent is in sword reach).

After the duel, go through the rest of the dialog to complete the mission.
