Dolos Macario, also known as the Spider of Sindria, is the Chief High Inspector-General heading the Sindrian Diktat's internal security ministry.
Biography
Macario originated from a Luddic family, but "had no faith" according to Horacio Caden. He was an intelligence analyst during the Battle of Salus, where Hegemony Admiral Philip Andrada mutinied and established the Diktat.
When Yannick Ram of the security services met with the player character to discuss Ram's plot to probe the loyalty of senior Diktat leaders (specifically the navy's Deputy Star Marshal Oxana Hyder, Guard High Deputy Executor Caden, and Macario himself), Macario intervened and executed Ram. He then adopted Ram's plan as his own, using the player character to investigate Hyder and Caden. The Spider anticipated ruling the Diktat from the shadows with Caden as his figurehead, after Andrada's death.[1]
Behind the scenes
Starsector writer David Baumgart described the intent for Macario as "a weird, evil guy who is having fun in his weird, evil job", drawing a comparison to the character Hans Landa from the film Inglourious Basterds. Macario's physical appearance is based partly on George Orwell.[2]
